Melbourne House

Melbourne House

Mekbourne House is an enabling co-living and learning environment where young people can live, learn and flourish in an innovative setting capable of responding to each young person in their own right.

A number of key principles are paramount to its success:

  • Coproduction is at the heart of this project – from design through to delivery
  • This project is rooted in the community – aimed at extending the beneficiaries as well as building bridges between the young people & the community, ready for their next independent living stage
  • The young person would be in the centre for up to 2 years with the aim being, to build the life skills necessary to move on into the community (personal management, financial, domestic, employment, friendships & relationships, etc.)
  • Floating support would be available after transition and crisis accommodation available if the young person needed to come back for top up support.
  • This space will be supportive and challenging. It is not a care home – it is about building skills, confidence, independence and resilience.  Those staying within the space will be called upon to help themselves, help each other and to also reach out to the community to which they belong.
  • Full Rich Evaluation to ensure maximum learning internally & externally & demonstrate the savings, when the crisis & breakdown costs that occur within the current care model, are avoided
